Henry was a typical young bloke of that time. He was able to turn his hand to many things, enjoyed working, playing sport and socialising.
Then the Second World War started. Henry went down to Cunnamulla to join up with some mates.

This is Henry’s Story - “I was deployed to TelAviv in the Middle East, Tipple, Cairo, Africa, & New Guinea”

“You boys”ll have the easy jobs”
Henry was told that when they went overseas they would get the “easy jobs”.
He soon found out what the army meant by an “easy job” !

In Africa Henry was part of the Suicide Squadron. Their group was given this name because the type of operations they took part in, were so dangerous that they were considered certain suicide!!!

Henry returned to Australia for training before he was sent to New Guinea.
One of the “easy jobs” Henry and his mates did in New Guinea, was to transport supplies. This job required that two men would pull a trailer full of food from the beach through the Jungle some times up to their necks in swamp water.
